Police in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district publicly paraded three alleged criminals on Monday, following a failed attempt to loot a State Bank of India (SBI) automated teller machine (ATM). The dramatic scene unfolded in Nawalgarh town, where the accused were taken on foot to the crime scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Foiled Midnight Heist
The incident traces back to the night of November 15, when a gang allegedly targeted an SBI ATM located near Poddar College in Nawalgarh. According to senior police officials, the attempted robbery was thwarted due to the combined alertness of the ATM security guard and a swift response from the local police. Jhunjhunu Superintendent of Police (SP) Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay confirmed that the vigilant guard played a pivotal role in raising the alarm, leading to the immediate activation of police forces.
Arrests and Gang Links
Following the incident, a police team launched a detailed investigation which led to the arrest of the three suspects. The police have identified the arrested individuals as Shakir (38), a resident of Shikarpur in Haryana's Nuh district, and his two alleged accomplices Tasleem (30) and Robin (36), both from Alimev village in Palwal district, Haryana.
SP Upadhyay stated that the preliminary investigation reveals the trio are part of a larger criminal network operating from the Mewat region of Haryana, an area sometimes noted for such activities. The police are probing their potential involvement in other similar crimes.
Site Verification and Public Parade
As part of the standard procedure for evidence collection and case building, the police conducted a site verification at the ATM location. On Monday, a team led by Nawalgarh Station House Officer (SHO) Ajay Singh paraded the three arrested men to the spot where they had allegedly tried to break into the cash machine.
This walk, known as a 'site parade' or 'scene recreation,' is a common investigative step where accused persons are taken to the crime location to confirm logistical details and establish the sequence of events. The public nature of the parade in Nawalgarh town also serves as a strong deterrent message to other potential criminals.
The case remains under active investigation as police work to uncover more details about the gang's operations and possible connections. This incident highlights the critical importance of robust ATM security measures and vigilant local policing in preventing financial crimes.
