Major Drug Bust in Arunachal Pradesh: Police Nab Two Interstate Peddlers with Heroin

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the anti-drug squad of the Arunachal Pradesh Police has successfully apprehended two interstate drug peddlers and confiscated a substantial quantity of suspected heroin in Changlang district. The operation, which unfolded on Sunday, marks a crucial victory in the ongoing battle against drug smuggling in the strategically important frontier region.

Operation Details and Arrest Location

Acting on credible and actionable intelligence, the dedicated anti-drug squad, under the leadership of Bordumsa police station officer in-charge Tomai Wangpan, executed a precise interception. The team halted a vehicle that was traveling from Jagun in Assam towards Bordumsa in Arunachal Pradesh. The arrest occurred near the Wagun Ponthai tri-junction on National Highway 215, within the jurisdiction of the Bordumsa circle, as confirmed by Changlang Superintendent of Police Kirli Padu on Monday.

Seizure of Contraband and Evidence

A thorough and meticulous search of the intercepted vehicle led to the discovery of 42.93 grams of suspected heroin, cleverly concealed within four soap cases. The illicit substance was hidden beneath the steering box of the vehicle, indicating a sophisticated attempt to evade detection. The estimated street value of the seized heroin is approximately Rs 2.74 lakh, underscoring the financial scale of the illegal operation.

In addition to the narcotics, law enforcement officials recovered two mobile handsets and Rs 4,900 in cash from the suspects. These items are expected to provide valuable evidence and insights into the broader drug trafficking network. The vehicle used in the smuggling attempt has been impounded by the authorities as part of the ongoing investigation.

Identification of the Accused

The arrested individuals have been identified as Anil Sharma, aged 46, and Dulu Baruah, aged 40. Both are now in police custody, facing serious charges related to drug peddling and interstate trafficking. Their arrest highlights the cross-border nature of drug smuggling activities affecting the region and the relentless efforts of the Arunachal Pradesh Police to combat such crimes.

This operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and the commitment of local authorities to maintaining law and order in Changlang district. The successful bust is expected to disrupt the supply chain of narcotics in the area and serve as a deterrent to other potential offenders.
