Three Army Personnel Arrested for Allegedly Attacking Police Team in Faridabad
In a shocking incident in Faridabad, three Army personnel were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly attacking a police team and obstructing government duty. The arrests followed a violent confrontation in Old Bhupani village, where the accused, who were home on leave, turned aggressive during a police investigation into a neighborly dispute.
Incident Stemmed from Longstanding Feud
The trouble began when a woman lodged a complaint with the Bhupani police station, alleging that her neighbors had assaulted her family members with sticks and axes. According to police spokesperson Yashpal Yadav, the woman reported that the attack occurred while her family was away attending her son's wedding on February 18. She named Army havildars Rohtash (alias Tota), Akash (alias Leelu), and Rohit (alias Bhola), along with others including Omwati and Mahaviri, as the perpetrators.
"During questioning, it emerged that the trio are Army personnel, who came home on leave," said Yadav. "Investigators said they had an ongoing dispute with their neighbour Rajpal and his family. When the police team arrived to probe the complaint, they turned aggressive and attacked the officers as well."
Violent Confrontation with Police
Acting on the complaint, a police team from Bhupani station reached Old Bhupani village to conduct an inquiry. During the proceedings, members of the accused party's family emerged from their house armed with sticks and confronted the officers. The situation escalated quickly as they attacked the police team, causing injuries and hindering them from carrying out their official duties.
Based on the complaint filed by sub-inspector Deshraj, an FIR was registered at Bhupani police station under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code. The charges include:
- Voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant
- Assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from duty
- Being a member of an unlawful assembly
- Rioting and rioting with a deadly weapon
- Voluntarily obstructing a public servant
- Criminal intimidation by threatening to cause death or grievous hurt
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action
Police revealed that the incident on February 18 occurred when Rajpal's son's wedding procession had left the village, leaving only women at home. The accused allegedly picked a quarrel during this vulnerable time, leading to the assault that prompted the initial complaint.
Efforts are currently underway to take action against other accused individuals named in the case, police added. The arrested Army personnel, all residents of Old Bhupani village, remain in custody as the investigation continues to unfold. This case highlights the serious consequences of obstructing law enforcement and the legal ramifications for those who attack public servants on duty.
