Army Aspirant Files Police Complaint Against TTE for Attempted Rape on Train
A young woman aspiring to join the Army has lodged a serious police complaint against a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE), accusing him of attempting to rape her inside a First AC cabin of the Ahmedabad-Gorakhpur Express. The incident occurred on Sunday while she was traveling to Mau in Uttar Pradesh for her NCC 'C-certificate' examination.
Details of the Alleged Assault
The 24-year-old complainant, who was traveling from Gorakhpur, stated that the TTE, identified as Rahul Kumar, offered her a berth in the air-conditioned coach after discovering she did not have a valid ticket. In a rush to reach her destination, she boarded the train hoping to purchase a ticket from the TTE by paying the requisite fine. However, the situation took a horrifying turn when the TTE allegedly attempted to sexually assault her inside the cabin.
The woman recounted, "He threatened to have me prosecuted for ticketless travel if I disclosed to anyone what he tried to do." This intimidation tactic was used in an attempt to silence her, but she bravely came forward to report the incident to the authorities.
Police Response and Reward Announcement
In response to the complaint, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has taken swift action by announcing a reward of Rs 10,000 for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect, Rahul Kumar, who is currently absconding. The GRP is actively investigating the case and searching for the accused TTE to ensure justice is served.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of passengers, especially women, on long-distance trains. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Rahul Kumar's whereabouts to come forward and assist in the investigation.
Broader Implications and Safety Measures
This alarming case highlights the vulnerabilities faced by travelers, particularly those in urgent or compromised situations. The woman's ordeal underscores the need for enhanced security measures and stricter monitoring of railway staff to prevent such incidents in the future.
As the investigation continues, the GRP is working to ensure that the suspect is apprehended promptly. The brave action of the Army aspirant in filing the complaint serves as a reminder of the importance of speaking out against misconduct and seeking legal recourse in the face of adversity.
