A 45-year-old computer teacher was brutally shot dead on the campus of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Tuesday night, sending shockwaves through the academic community. The victim, identified as Rau Danish Ali, was on an evening walk with acquaintances when unidentified assailants opened fire at close range.
The Fatal Attack on a Peaceful Evening
The incident occurred around 9 pm near the iconic Maulana Azad Library. According to Imran, an acquaintance who was walking with Ali, the attackers arrived on a two-wheeler. One of them ominously stated, "You don't know me yet, now you will," before firing. Ali was hit by a bullet near his ear and collapsed immediately. The assailants fled the scene promptly after the shooting.
Ali, who had been a dedicated computer teacher at the university's ABK High School for over a decade, was rushed to the JNMC Medical College. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Aligarh, Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, confirmed the details, noting that the police immediately attended to the information and secured the crime scene.
Police Investigation and Family's Anguish
SSP Jadaun stated that the two attackers remain unidentified and that a thorough investigation is underway. "The crime scene has been examined. The police will soon arrest the person responsible for this incident," he assured. He also revealed a crucial lead from the family, indicating they believe the attackers might be known to the victim. "I just had a conversation with the family, and they said that, according to them, it appears that the attackers are known to the victim. Every aspect will be investigated," Jadaun added.
The family shared that Danish Ali was planning to undertake the Umrah pilgrimage in the near future, a plan tragically cut short by this violent act. The loss has left the school and local community in a state of profound grief, mourning a teacher described as dedicated to educating children.
Community Seeks Answers and Justice
The brazen attack on the university campus, a place of learning and safety, has raised serious concerns about security. Authorities are examining all angles, including personal enmity, as a possible motive. The police are analyzing evidence from the barricaded crime scene and pursuing leads to track down the individuals on the two-wheeler.
As the investigation continues, the AMU community and residents of Aligarh await answers and justice for Danish Ali, whose life was abruptly ended during a routine evening stroll. The incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced safety measures on educational premises.
