ISI Backing and Radicalization Revealed

Preliminary investigations have uncovered disturbing connections to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). According to SSP Suhail Qasim Mir, the module was actively backed by Pakistan's ISI, with the alleged accused maintaining contact with a Pakistan-based handler operating from abroad. This handler was directing terror activities specifically within Punjab, orchestrating operations from a foreign location.

The investigation further revealed that the module had been radicalized and motivated to target police establishments. Promises of substantial financial rewards were made to the accused for executing the attack, though ultimately only a paltry amount was paid by the Pakistani handler, according to police statements.

Operational Details and Weapon Recovery

During the course of the investigation, it came to light that accused Baljit and Prabh allegedly retrieved two hand grenades from a location near Gharinda. This retrieval was part of the preparation for the attack on the police station.

SSP Faridkot Pragya Jain elaborated on the arrest process, stating that police teams initially arrested two accused involved in the grenade attack case from Faridkot. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of four more individuals from Amritsar, completing the network dismantling operation.

Legal Framework and Charges Filed

A comprehensive case has been registered at Bhindi Saida police station under multiple sections of various acts:

  • Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act
  • Sections 13, 16, 18 and 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act
  • Sections 109, 61(1), 61(2), 3(5) and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
  • Section 25 of the Arms Act

This multi-pronged legal approach reflects the seriousness of the charges and the comprehensive nature of the investigation.

The successful operation demonstrates effective inter-district police coordination and highlights ongoing security challenges in the region. The revelation of ISI involvement underscores the external dimensions of domestic security threats, while the arrests represent a significant step in countering terror modules operating within Punjab.
