Allahabad HC Adjourns Sambhal Violence Case Hearing

The Allahabad High Court in Prayagraj has adjourned the hearing on a significant petition concerning the 2024 Sambhal violence case. On Tuesday, the court postponed the proceedings, setting February 9 as the next date for the hearing. This decision came after the Additional Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh, Manish Goyal, informed the court that the state government has also filed a petition against the same order.

Petition Details and Court Proceedings

The petition in question was filed by Anuj Chaudhary, the former circle officer of Sambhal. He is challenging an order dated January 9, which was passed by Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Vibhanshu Sudhir of Sambhal. This order directed the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against several police personnel, including Chaudhary himself, in connection with the 2024 Sambhal violence case.

Background of the Case

The case stems from a plea filed by Yameen, a resident of the Khaggu Sarai locality in the Nakhasa area of Sambhal. Yameen alleged that his 24-year-old son, Alam, was shot at by police personnel on November 24, 2024. According to the complaint, Alam had gone out to sell papad near the Shahi Jama Masjid area when the incident occurred. This led to the CJM's order for FIR registration against the involved police officers.

Court's Directions and Future Hearing

Justice Samit Gopal of the Allahabad High Court presided over the hearing. In response to the state's petition, the court decided to club both petitions together for a joint hearing. This move aims to streamline the legal process and ensure a comprehensive examination of the case. Additionally, the court granted time to Yameen's counsel upon request, allowing them to prepare adequately for the upcoming proceedings.

The adjournment reflects the court's careful approach to handling this sensitive matter, which involves allegations against law enforcement officials. The next hearing on February 9 is expected to delve deeper into the merits of the petitions and the circumstances surrounding the Sambhal violence incident.
