Akola Police Officer Suspended and Arrested Over Sexual Harassment Allegations in Lockup
In a shocking incident from Akola, a police officer has been suspended and subsequently arrested after a woman detained in a police lockup accused him of soliciting sexual favours. The accused, identified as Rajesh Jadhav, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) stationed at the Civil Lines police station, allegedly made inappropriate advances towards the woman while she was in custody.
Details of the Alleged Misconduct
The woman, who was being held in connection with an alleged cyber fraud case involving Rs 80 lakh, claimed that Jadhav, who was on duty as a lockup guard, offered her money in exchange for sexual favours. Furthermore, she reported that he made objectionable comments about her daughter, suggesting that she should send her to him. According to the complaint, Jadhav allegedly stated he would pay Rs 10,000 and "sort out her case," adding a disturbing layer to the accusations.
Swift Police Action and Investigation
Following the woman's complaint, authorities acted promptly. A case was registered against Jadhav under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and departmental action was initiated, leading to his suspension. Akola Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak emphasized the seriousness of the matter, stating, "We acted swiftly and registered an FIR the same night and suspended the cop. Such conduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances." He highlighted that the case is being treated with utmost priority due to its implications for the safety and dignity of women in custody.
Senior police inspector Anil Jumle, who is overseeing the investigation, reported that Jadhav allegedly fled the police station premises soon after the FIR was lodged. In response, three teams were formed to locate and apprehend him, leading to his arrest on Wednesday.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, former State Women's Commission member Dr. Asha Mirge revealed that complaints about Jadhav's conduct had surfaced in the past. She noted, "Allegations about his inappropriate behaviour had been brought to notice a decade ago, including a complaint by his wife and a woman cop."
