AIADMK Youth Wing Functionary Among Three Arrested in Chennai Drug Bust

In a significant crackdown on narcotics, three individuals, including a district-level AIADMK youth wing functionary, were apprehended on Wednesday night in Chennai for possession of 700 grams of high-grade 'OG' ganja. The arrests were executed by a specialized team from the anti-narcotics intelligence unit (ANIU) special task unit during a targeted raid in the western suburbs of the city, specifically in Valasaravakkam.

Details of the Operation

The operation, spearheaded by Inspector Johnny Chellapa, commenced in the early hours of Wednesday at a residence located in Madanandapuram near Porur. During the raid, officers successfully detained K Sunil, a 21-year-old individual, and confiscated the majority of the contraband from his possession. Sunil is identified as a second-year Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) student at an arts and science college in Porur and holds the position of deputy secretary for the AIADMK Tiruvallur district youth wing.

Expansion of the Investigation

Following the initial arrest, the investigation led authorities to two additional suspects: P Varun Prasath, aged 23, from Kovur, and J Vishvesh, aged 22, from Iyyappanthangal on Arcot Road in Valasaravakkam. From these individuals, police seized four grams of narcotics, further implicating them in the drug distribution network.

Seizures and Legal Proceedings

In addition to the substantial 700 grams of high-grade ganja, law enforcement officials confiscated several mobile phones and high-end motorcycles that were allegedly used for the delivery of the illicit substances. These items are believed to be integral to the suspects' operations, facilitating the distribution of drugs across the area. After the arrests and seizures, all three suspects were formally handed over to the Valasaravakkam police station for further legal processing and investigation.

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by Chennai police to combat drug trafficking, particularly in suburban regions, and underscores the involvement of individuals from various backgrounds, including political affiliations. The case is expected to proceed with thorough scrutiny as authorities aim to dismantle broader networks associated with narcotics trade in the city.
