AIADMK Youth Wing Functionary Among Trio Nabbed in Major Chennai Narcotics Operation

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, law enforcement authorities in Chennai have apprehended three individuals, including a district-level AIADMK youth wing official, for illegal possession of a substantial quantity of high-grade cannabis. The arrests were executed on Wednesday night following a meticulously planned raid conducted by the anti-narcotics intelligence unit (ANIU) special task unit in the western suburbs of the city.

Targeted Raid Leads to Seizure of 700 Grams of 'OG' Ganja

The operation, spearheaded by Inspector Johnny Chellapa, commenced in the early hours of Wednesday at a residential property located in Madanandapuram near Porur. During the raid, officers successfully detained K Sunil, aged 21, and confiscated the majority of the illicit substances from his custody. Sunil, who is currently enrolled as a second-year BCA student at an arts and science college in Porur, also holds the position of deputy secretary for the AIADMK Tiruvallur district youth wing.

Subsequent investigative efforts led authorities to two additional suspects: P Varun Prasath, 23, from Kovur, and J Vishvesh, 22, residing in Iyyappanthangal on Arcot Road in Valasaravakkam. A smaller quantity, specifically four grams of narcotics, was recovered from these individuals. In total, the police seized approximately 700 grams of premium-quality 'OG' ganja, along with multiple mobile phones and high-performance motorcycles that were allegedly utilized for distribution purposes.

Comprehensive Confiscation and Legal Proceedings

The anti-narcotics team's operation resulted in the comprehensive confiscation of not only the narcotics but also critical communication devices and vehicles believed to be integral to the drug delivery network. Following their apprehension, all three suspects were formally transferred to the Valasaravakkam police station for further legal processing and interrogation.

This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by Chennai's law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related activities within the metropolitan area. The involvement of a political youth wing member has added a layer of complexity to the case, highlighting concerns about drug infiltration across various societal segments.

The authorities have emphasized their commitment to intensifying surveillance and conducting similar targeted operations to disrupt narcotics supply chains and hold perpetrators accountable under the stringent provisions of drug enforcement laws.
