Ahmedabad Woman Files Police Complaint Over WhatsApp Harassment Linked to Property Dispute
In a distressing case from Ahmedabad, a local woman has filed a formal police complaint against her brother-in-law, alleging a sustained campaign of harassment and intimidation conducted primarily through family WhatsApp groups. The complaint, registered at a local police station, details how the accused flooded these shared digital platforms with obscene language, vulgar slurs, and explicit death threats targeting multiple family members.
Escalation Beyond Digital Abuse
The victim reported that the abuse was not limited to online spaces. She alleged that her brother-in-law engaged in physical stalking, frequently loitering near her residence. This behavior has caused her significant mental distress and a pervasive sense of insecurity, severely impacting her daily life and sense of safety.
Root Cause in Property Dispute
Investigations suggest the motive behind this escalating hostility is a simmering property dispute. The accused is believed to be using criminal intimidation tactics in an attempt to force the woman and her husband to relinquish their rightfully owned family land. The harassment appears to be a calculated strategy to exert pressure over the contentious property matter.
Legal Action Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
In her detailed statement to authorities, the complainant has sought strict legal action. The FIR invokes relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), specifically for acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman and for issuing direct threats to life. Police have confirmed they have initiated a formal investigation and are examining the digital evidence provided by the victim from the WhatsApp groups.
