Ahmedabad Woman Files Domestic Violence Case Against Husband, In-Laws
Ahmedabad woman files domestic violence complaint

A 30-year-old woman in Ahmedabad has taken a stand against alleged years of torment by filing a formal complaint with the Vasna police on Friday. The complaint targets her husband and in-laws, accusing them of sustained domestic violence and mental harassment.

Allegations of Abuse and Instigation

The woman stated in her complaint that she got married in 2018 and moved into a joint family home. Her household included her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. While she was treated well initially, the situation deteriorated rapidly.

She alleged that her in-laws soon began taunting her over household chores and responsibilities. The complaint crucially states that the in-laws used to instigate her husband against her. This instigation, she claims, led to repeated physical assaults by her husband. She described being harassed and beaten over what she called small and trivial matters.

A Tragic Loss and Prolonged Separation

The woman's ordeal was compounded by personal tragedy. During her roughly seven-year stay at her matrimonial home, she gave birth to a son. The infant, however, died just seven days after birth.

Due to the alleged mistreatment, the complainant was forced to live at her parental home for a period of 11 months. In a recent incident, she underwent an ear operation in January of this year. After the procedure, she went to her parental home to recuperate and has remained there since.

Refusal to Return and Police Action

The woman alleged that about three months ago, her father-in-law came to her parental home to bring her back. However, traumatized by her past experiences, she refused to go with him.

She expressed a condition for return, stating that she wanted her husband to personally come and accept her back. According to her complaint, her husband never came to take her back, leaving her with no recourse but to seek legal justice. This ultimately led her to approach the Vasna police station to file the official complaint, setting the legal process in motion.

The police have registered the complaint and are investigating the allegations of domestic violence and harassment made by the Ahmedabad woman.
