Ahmedabad Police Launches Special Investigation Team Following Dhandhuka Violence

Ahmedabad: In response to the murder of Dharmesh Gamara and the ensuing communal rioting in Dhandhuka, the Ahmedabad Rural police have swiftly constituted a special investigation team (SIT). This decisive move aims to unravel the complex sequence of events that led to the tragic incident and the widespread violence that followed.

Leadership and Composition of the SIT

The SIT is being led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash Prajapati, who oversees the Dholka division. Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Jat confirmed that this four-member team includes experienced officers from the Local Crime Branch (LCB) and a police sub-inspector. Their primary mandate is to conduct a thorough investigation into Gamara's murder and the subsequent communal clashes, ensuring all aspects are meticulously examined.

Current Situation and Police Response

According to SP Om Prakash Jat, the situation in Dhandhuka has stabilized and is gradually returning to normalcy, with peace being maintained. However, the police have taken proactive legal measures by registering two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) late on Saturday night.

  1. Murder Case FIR: Filed by Rahul Gamara, the cousin of the deceased, this complaint names Rizwan Maniyar and Sameer Amdani as the accused. It includes charges of murder, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.
  2. Rioting Case FIR: Based on the complaint of PSI Harshrajsinh Zala, this FIR targets 125 residents of Dhandhuka. It invokes sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to unlawful assembly, rioting—including rioting with deadly weapons—mischief causing losses exceeding Rs 1 lakh, and criminal trespass.

Details of the Murder Incident

The murder case stems from the fatal stabbing of 29-year-old Dharmesh Gamara, allegedly following a dispute over motorcycle parking near a bank in the Swastik Complex area. Police reports indicate that the incident began as a minor accident but quickly escalated into a heated argument.

As per the complaint filed by Rahul Gamara, a resident of Dhandhuka, the conflict originated from an earlier altercation involving his cousin Dharmesh and the two accused, Maniyar and Amdani, who are also local residents. The complainant detailed that around noon, Dharmesh argued with the accused over parking issues. Later, Dharmesh called Rahul to accompany him to visit a relative in the area.

At approximately 1 PM, while the two cousins were passing through an alley in Naseeb Society on separate motorcycles, the accused allegedly intercepted Dharmesh. They abused him and issued death threats related to the earlier dispute. Rahul alleged that during this confrontation, Sameer restrained Dharmesh while Rizwan stabbed him in the left thigh with a knife, leading to his death.

Extent of Violence and Injuries

The violence that erupted following the murder resulted in serious injuries to several individuals from both communities involved in the rioting. The complaint notes that the unrest spread to multiple parts of Dhandhuka, including:

  • Ranpur Circle
  • Dholera Three Roads
  • Mithawala Complex
  • Areas near RMS Hospital
  • The railway station
  • Bagodara Highway Road
  • Ranpur Road

Police authorities have emphasized that the SIT's investigation will cover all these locations and incidents to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the events and to facilitate appropriate legal action.
