Ahmedabad Police Crack Silver Theft Case with 10-Day Operation
The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch has successfully arrested a 19-year-old man for his alleged role in a significant silver theft. The accused, identified as Ashwin Khadiya, reportedly stole silver ornaments valued at Rs 1.75 lakh from a local jewellery shop.
Labour-Intensive Break-In on January 8
Police officials stated that Khadiya committed the theft during the night of January 8. He bypassed the shop's high-security shutters by drilling a hole through the rear wall. This method required considerable physical effort and planning.
Investigators quickly developed a psychological profile of the thief. They theorized that someone capable of such a labour-intensive breach likely had experience in construction or manual labour. This insight guided their initial search strategy.
Strategic Focus on Labour Colonies
"We believed the thief would seek refuge in familiar labour colonies," explained a police officer involved in the case. This reasoning led the team to concentrate their efforts on settlements near the Ramol canal and Jamfalwadi area.
Police Inspector S J Jadeja detailed their technical approach. Officers synchronized feeds from hundreds of CCTV cameras along the Hatkeshwar-Ramol corridor. They looked for specific movement patterns, particularly individuals carrying heavy, concealed loads late at night.
CCTV Analysis and Human Intelligence Combine
"We scanned the CCTV footage and could identify the accused's physique, but we couldn't see his face clearly," Jadeja said. "However, it became evident that he entered Jamfalwadi."
The crime branch merged this technical surveillance with information from human informants. This combination allowed them to track the suspect's movements with precision, following what they described as "digital breadcrumbs."
Ten-Day Manhunt Ends with Recovery
Once investigators confirmed Khadiya's involvement, they discovered he had gone missing. After nearly ten days, he returned to the area. Police anticipated his attempt to move the stolen property and set a strategic trap near the Shaktimata Temple in Jamfalwadi.
The operation concluded at the Jamfalwadi Char Rasta intersection. Crime branch officers caught Khadiya red-handed and recovered all the stolen jewellery. The total recovered value matched the reported theft amount of Rs 1.75 lakh.
