Ahmedabad Man Shot by Girlfriend's Brother in Community Dispute, Second Firing in Two Days
In a disturbing incident that has raised serious questions about law and order in Ahmedabad, a 32-year-old man was shot in the leg on Sunday morning. The alleged perpetrator is the brother of his girlfriend, and this marks the second firing incident in the city within just two days, casting a shadow over the police's ability to curb violent crime.
Details of the Shooting Incident
According to Sola police inspector K N Bhukan, the victim, identified as Prakash Rabari, aged 32 and employed with a financial recovery firm, was targeted near Ugati Chowk in the Chanakyapuri area. The accused, Montu Desai, also 32 and a resident of Patan, is currently absconding following the attack.
Inspector Bhukan provided further context, stating, "The complainant and the sister of the accused have been in a relationship for eight years. There was a community dispute, following which the members of their communities decided that the relationship should end." This community pressure appears to have escalated into violence.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Shooting
On February 15, both Rabari and Desai were present in Ahmedabad and reportedly met earlier in the day. Later, near Ugati Chowk, Desai, accompanied by his aides, confronted Rabari. During this confrontation, Desai allegedly fired two rounds from a revolver. One of these bullets struck Rabari in the leg, causing injury. The police are actively searching for Desai, who fled the scene after the incident.
Second Firing Incident in Two Days Raises Alarm
This shooting comes on the heels of another violent episode in the city. Just two days prior, on Friday, a 41-year-old tea vendor was injured after being shot in the Fatehwadi area. The back-to-back incidents have sparked concerns among residents and authorities alike regarding the effectiveness of crime prevention measures in Ahmedabad.
The recurrence of such violence within a short span calls into question the city police's strategies and readiness to handle escalating disputes. Community leaders and citizens are urging for enhanced surveillance and proactive interventions to prevent further occurrences.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
The Sola police have registered a case and are investigating the matter thoroughly. Efforts are underway to apprehend Montu Desai and his accomplices. The police are also examining the broader implications of community disputes leading to criminal acts, aiming to address root causes and improve public safety.
As the investigation progresses, the focus remains on ensuring justice for the victim and restoring confidence in the law enforcement system. The Ahmedabad police have assured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
