Ahmedabad Live-in Partner Death: Family Booked for Suicide

Tragic End to Troubled Relationship in Ahmedabad

Chandkheda police have registered a serious case of abetment to suicide following the mysterious death of a 25-year-old woman who was living with her former husband as a live-in partner. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised questions about domestic violence and harassment.

The victim's family has come forward with disturbing allegations of prolonged harassment against her ex-husband and his family members. The formal complaint was filed by her father, a 53-year-old taluka health supervisor residing in Chandkheda, painting a tragic picture of his daughter's final years.

From Court Marriage to Tragic Separation

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the woman first encountered the man and his parents during a family trip back in 2018. Despite her parents' objections, the couple proceeded with a court marriage in 2020, hoping to build a life together.

However, the marriage quickly turned sour. Within several months, the young woman returned to her parental home, claiming she had suffered both physical and mental harassment at the hands of her mother-in-law and brother-in-law. The situation deteriorated to the point where the couple officially divorced in August 2021.

Complicated Live-in Arrangement and Escalating Tensions

In a surprising turn of events, just two months after the divorce, the man reportedly contacted his former wife again and brought her back to his home without informing her parents. The relationship took another formal turn when the couple signed a live-in agreement in November 2021.

The woman began living with her ex-husband as a live-in partner, sharing the residence with his family members. The relationship produced a child when the woman gave birth to a son in May 2023. According to her father's complaint, the harassment intensified significantly after the child's birth.

The victim had confided in her family that her in-laws threatened to take her son away if she didn't comply with their demands or bring money from her parental home. She detailed experiencing regular verbal abuse, threats, and physical assault during this difficult period.

The Final Days and Mysterious Death

On November 11, the woman returned to her parents' home, explaining that her partner had traveled abroad and she feared confrontations with her mother-in-law. The respite was short-lived.

On the night of November 21, her live-in partner called and demanded she return immediately. Her brother dropped her off at the in-laws' residence, unaware it would be the last time he would see his sister alive.

Tragedy struck the very next day when the family received an urgent call asking them to rush to an urban health centre near Manikrupa School. There they discovered the woman's lifeless body on a stretcher. Her partner claimed she had fallen from the balcony of their flat.

The woman's brother immediately alerted the police, and the body was sent for postmortem examination. Adding to the tragedy, a video allegedly showing the suicide went viral on social media platforms, depicting the woman falling from the third floor of the residential flat.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

Chandkheda police have taken decisive action, booking the live-in partner, his mother, and his brother under multiple charges including abetment to suicide, harassment, and criminal intimidation.

The case continues to develop as investigators piece together the final moments of the young woman's life and examine the patterns of alleged harassment that preceded her tragic death. The local community awaits justice for the victim and her young son, who now faces life without his mother.
