Ahmedabad Crime Branch Nabs History-Sheeter with Illegal Firearm
Ahmedabad: The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Thursday apprehended a 30-year-old history-sheeter from Danilimda and recovered a country-made pistol along with three live cartridges allegedly found in his possession.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Firoz Ansari, a resident of Narol, was captured near the ST workshop ground in Danilimda following a tip-off received by the crime branch.
According to a complaint filed by DCB personnel, police were informed that Ansari, previously booked in cases of assault, house break-ins, and offences under the Arms Act, was moving around the area carrying an illegal firearm.
Acting on the intelligence, a DCB team set a trap near the Adani CNG pump in Danilimda and intercepted the suspect. Police recovered a country-made pistol concealed in the front portion of his waistband. Three live cartridges were also allegedly found in the pocket of his trousers.
Police stated that the firearm did not contain any cartridge at the time of seizure. During questioning, the accused allegedly failed to produce any licence, permit, or other documents authorising possession of the weapon and ammunition.
The seized pistol, estimated to be worth around Rs 10,000, and the three cartridges valued at approximately Rs 300, were packed, sealed, and taken into custody as evidence.
A case was registered against Ansari under relevant provisions of the Arms Act, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the firearm and its intended use, police said.
