Gomtipur Road Rage Turns Violent: 4 Stabbed After Two-Wheeler Dispute
Ahmedabad: 4 stabbed in Gomtipur road rage attack

A violent road rage incident in the heart of Ahmedabad left four young men with serious stab wounds, sending shockwaves through the Gomtipur locality. The attack, which stemmed from a minor traffic altercation, occurred on Monday night, with a First Information Report (FIR) formally registered the following day, Tuesday.

From Traffic Spat to Knife Assault

The chain of events began when the elder brother of the 28-year-old complainant was returning to their chawl near Nagri Mills in Gomtipur from Maninagar on his motorcycle. According to the police complaint, he allegedly brushed past another two-wheeler rider from a neighbouring chawl. This led to a heated argument, after which the complainant's brother left the scene.

The situation, however, took a dangerous turn minutes later. The rider from the opposing group reportedly returned to the area with two associates. They confronted the complainant near his residence, aggressively demanding to know his brother's location.

The Brutal Attack and Brave Intervention

The confrontation quickly spiralled out of control. The trio allegedly began hurling abuses and physically assaulting the complainant. Hearing the commotion, three of his friends rushed to his aid. Instead of diffusing the situation, the attackers turned on them, initiating a physical brawl.

The scuffle reached a horrifying climax when the accused men drew knives. In the ensuing violence, one of the attackers inflicted deep knife wounds on both arms of the primary complainant. Another friend was stabbed on the left side of his chest, a potentially life-threatening injury. The third friend sustained stab wounds to the stomach, while the fourth victim suffered a knife slash to his head.

Community Response and Police Action

The sounds of the violent assault alarmed residents of the chawl. As neighbours rushed to the scene, the attackers fled, but not before allegedly threatening to kill the complainant. The quick-thinking neighbours alerted emergency services, leading to all four injured men being rushed to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for urgent treatment. All victims remain hospitalized as of the latest reports.

Taking swift action, the Gomtipur police have registered a detailed FIR. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to assault, causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons, and criminal intimidation. Charges of abetment and general offences under the Gujarat Police Act have also been invoked. Authorities have confirmed that a thorough investigation is currently underway to apprehend the accused.
