Stray Dog Brutally Attacked with Acid in Lucknow's Chowk Locality
In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage, a stray dog was targeted with a corrosive acid attack in the Phool Wali Gali area of Chowk, Lucknow, on Thursday night. The animal, which had recently delivered a litter of six puppies just a couple of days prior, suffered severe chemical burns, prompting immediate intervention from local animal welfare activists.
NGO Volunteers Rush to Aid Injured Canine
According to reports from an animal welfare non-governmental organization (NGO), residents alerted them to the distressing situation late at night. Volunteers swiftly arrived at the scene and discovered the dog in agonizing pain, with extensive burns covering a large portion of its body. The NGO emphasized that this marks the third such case reported from the same locality in recent months, raising serious concerns about the unchecked availability and storage of acid in the neighborhood.
Volunteer Amar Rajput, who responded to the alert, stated, "We found the dog in immense pain, with burns across a significant part of its body. Given that it had just given birth to puppies, our immediate priority was to provide first aid and transfer it to a veterinary facility for urgent medical attention." The dog was subsequently admitted for specialized burn management and infection control treatments.
Growing Concerns Over Acid Accessibility and Misuse
The NGO has highlighted a troubling pattern of acid being readily available in nearby shops, where it is commonly used for various occupational purposes. Containers are often left in open or easily accessible spaces, increasing the risk of misuse and accidental harm to both animals and humans. In response, the organization has formally requested police action to address these safety lapses.
Local residents have echoed these concerns, noting that attacks on stray dogs have occurred previously in the area. Nida, a resident, commented on the recurring nature of such incidents, while another local, Rahman Ali, urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this cruel act.
Police Launch Probe into the Incident
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Chowk, Raj Kumar Singh, confirmed that law enforcement has received a formal complaint regarding the acid attack and is actively investigating the matter. "We have received an application detailing the incident, and our team is currently probing the case to identify those responsible," Singh informed.
The NGO has called on the police to not only apprehend the perpetrators but also to implement stricter regulations on the sale and storage of acid in the locality to prevent future tragedies. This incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced community awareness and regulatory measures to protect vulnerable animals from such heinous acts of violence.
