Police Fire at History-Sheeter in Rajkot During Crime Scene Reconstruction
Accused Shot While Fleeing Police in Rajkot

In a dramatic incident in Gujarat's Surendranagar district, police were forced to open fire on a notorious history-sheeter who allegedly attempted to flee after violently attacking a police officer. The event unfolded during a crime scene reconstruction on Tuesday evening, marking the eighth such incident in the state since April where an arrested accused has been shot in the leg.

Violent Escape Attempt During Investigation

The accused, identified as Divyaraj alias Bul Borana, was taken by Limbdi police to Shiyani village for crime reconstruction between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM on Tuesday. Borana, who faces at least 11 serious criminal cases, was arrested in connection with a November 17 incident. On that date, he and five associates allegedly used a tractor to damage a motorcycle outside the house of a woman named Jashu Aghara. They reportedly issued death threats against her son before leaving the scene, according to Vishal Rabari, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) of the Limbdi division.

Knife Attack Leads to Police Firing

The situation escalated when officers began seizing weapons used in the original crime. Borana allegedly attacked Assistant Sub-Inspector Dharmendrasinh Parmar with a sharp weapon, inflicting injuries. In immediate response to this assault, Sub-Inspector V.M. Kodiyatar fired four rounds from his service revolver. One of the bullets struck Borana in his leg, preventing his escape.

Following the shooting, both the injured officer and the accused were rushed to medical facilities. ASI Parmar received treatment at a hospital in Limbdi, while Borana was taken to the CU Shah Hospital in Surendranagar for care.

A Notorious Criminal Record

Police sources reveal that Borana's extensive criminal dossier includes charges of assault, rioting, violations under the Prohibition Act, and issuing death threats. His attempted escape adds to a concerning pattern across Gujarat. Since April, this is the eighth incident where police have shot an arrested accused in the leg during custody or investigation. Similar cases have been previously reported from Ahmedabad, Navsari, Surat, and Jasdan taluka in Rajkot district.

The incident raises questions about the protocols during crime reconstructions involving violent offenders and highlights the ongoing challenges faced by police when dealing with repeat offenders with histories of serious crimes.
