In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) intercepted a team of Haryana Police personnel late on Saturday night and allegedly recovered Rs 6 lakh in suspected bribe money from their vehicle. The incident occurred in the Trishingiya area under the Kuchaman City police station limits in the Didwana-Kuchaman district.
Operation Based on Confidential Tip-Off
Acting on confidential intelligence, the Ajmer unit of the ACB swung into action. The bureau had received specific information that a team from the Cyber Crime Police Station in Sirsa, Haryana, had come to Rajasthan to investigate certain cybercrime cases registered in their state.
The information further alleged that the team was intimidating individuals connected to the cases and collecting illegal gratification before planning to return to Haryana. Following directions from the ACB headquarters, a team led by Additional SP Vandana Bhati and under the supervision of Ajmer Range SP Mahavir Singh Ranawat conducted a surprise check on the team's vehicle.
Cash Seized, Legal Proceedings Initiated
During the interception and search, ACB officers discovered and seized Rs 6 lakh in cash, which is suspected to be the bribe money. The intercepted team included Sub-Inspector (SI) Surendra Kumar, posted at the Sirsa cyber crime station, along with other police personnel.
Since this was not a pre-planned trap operation but an interception based on intelligence, immediate arrests were not made. ACB DG Govind Gupta confirmed that a case has been registered and legal proceedings have been initiated under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The cash has been formally seized and documented as case evidence, with a thorough probe now underway.
Second Incident in Two Days Involving Haryana Police
This event follows closely on another corruption case involving a Haryana Police officer in Rajasthan. Just a day earlier, on Saturday, the ACB in Jodhpur had arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from Haryana, identified as Praveen, who was posted with the crime branch in Gurugram's Pallav Vihar.
In that trap operation, ASI Praveen was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh. He had reportedly demanded the money in exchange for not harassing a complainant during remand and for offering "help" in a case registered in Gurugram. The back-to-back incidents have put a spotlight on the conduct of police teams operating outside their home state.
The Rajasthan ACB's actions underscore its vigilant stance against corruption, even when it involves personnel from other state forces. The outcomes of the investigations into both cases are now eagerly awaited.
