The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana arrested Roads and Buildings (R&B) department Engineer-in-Chief (ENC) Mohan Naik Jarupula on Tuesday after uncovering disproportionate assets (DA) valued at over Rs 50 crore. The 58-year-old official was taken into custody following coordinated searches at 17 locations, including his residence, offices, and properties linked to relatives, associates, and benamis in Hyderabad and Nizamabad.
Details of the Searches and Seized Assets
ACB teams conducted simultaneous raids on Tuesday morning, leading to the discovery of a vast array of assets. These included five agricultural land parcels totaling 19.38 acres in Mullangi village of Dichpally mandal, Nizamabad; three flats in Kompally; four flats constructed on a 500-square-yard commercial property in Gachibowli; a triplex villa at Miyapur; a newly built independent house at Kukatpally; and an advance payment of Rs 1 crore for a newly constructed villa in Nizamabad. Additionally, authorities seized Rs 55 lakh in cash, Rs 1.44 crore in bank balances, 2.5 kilograms of gold ornaments, six kilograms of silver articles, household items worth Rs 1.26 crore, nine cell phones, four laptops valued at Rs 11.25 lakh, and two cars worth Rs 25 lakh.
Estimated Value of Assets
An ACB official stated that the documentary value of the disproportionate assets is approximately Rs 17.94 crore. However, the market value is estimated to exceed Rs 50 crore, given that the Miyapur villa and Gachibowli commercial property alone are currently valued at around Rs 25-30 crore. The official emphasized that the assets were acquired through illicit means, far exceeding the engineer's known sources of income.
Legal Action and Public Appeal
The accused has been arrested under Section 13(1)(b) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He is scheduled to be produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases in Hyderabad on Wednesday for judicial remand. The ACB has urged the public to report any demands for bribes by public servants via the toll-free number 1064. Citizens can also contact the ACB Telangana through WhatsApp (9440446106), Facebook (Telangana ACB), or X (@Telangana_ACB). The bureau assured that the complainant's identity and details would be kept confidential.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts by the ACB to combat corruption among public officials. The agency continues to investigate and take strict action against those accumulating wealth through illegal means.
