Meerut Traffic Disrupted by ABVP Convoy Reckless Driving on Begum Bridge
ABVP Convoy Disrupts Meerut Traffic, SHO Removed

Traffic on the busy Begum Bridge in Meerut was thrown into disarray on Friday after a convoy of vehicles carrying supporters of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) engaged in reckless and dangerous driving. The incident, which was captured on video and later went viral, has led to significant police action, including the removal of a station house officer and the registration of a formal case.

Chaos on the Bridge: Stunts, Sirens, and Slogans

The group was returning from a meeting at Gautam Buddh University in Greater Noida. According to police reports and visual evidence, the individuals in the convoy created a major nuisance on the crucial bridge. They were seen leaning out of moving cars, honking sirens, shouting slogans, and performing stunts, endangering both themselves and other commuters. Despite warnings from police personnel present at the scene, the convoy allegedly ignored them and continued their disruptive behavior before speeding away from the area.

Police Swing Into Action After Video Goes Viral

The situation escalated on Saturday when a video of the entire episode surfaced and was widely circulated on various social media platforms. The viral clip prompted SSP Meerut Dr. Vipin Tada to take immediate disciplinary action. Citing negligence of duty, the SSP removed the SHO (Station House Officer) of the Sadar police station from his post. This move underscored the seriousness with which the police administration viewed the lapse in monitoring and controlling the situation.

Following the internal action, legal proceedings were initiated. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to rash driving and endangering lives. The case has been filed against the owner of one identified vehicle, while efforts are ongoing to trace others involved. Police officials confirmed that CCTV footage and the viral videos are being meticulously examined to identify all the accused persons and vehicles involved in the incident.

Political Context and Ongoing Investigation

The convoy was reportedly part of a roadshow organized to welcome Aryan Prajapati, a newly elected office bearer of the ABVP from the Meerut Prant. The police have stated that further legal action will be taken once all the vehicles and individuals part of the convoy are successfully traced. The incident has highlighted concerns about political student group activities and public safety on roads.

The swift action by the Meerut police, triggered by public outrage on social media, demonstrates the increasing role of digital evidence in law enforcement. The authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure accountability for the dangerous disruption caused on Begum Bridge.
