In a tragic incident, the body of a young woman was discovered hanging in a paying guest (PG) accommodation located behind the bus stand in Abohar town, Fazilka district, on Wednesday. The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Geeta, a resident of Arniwala village in Fazilka, who was employed at a cinema hall in Abohar.
Discovery of the Body and Police Investigation
Geeta's body was found hanging from a noose in her room at the PG past midnight on Wednesday. The discovery occurred when an acquaintance of the woman, named Ravi, arrived at the accommodation, claiming that she was unwell and he needed to see her. Upon opening the door, the PG owner and others found Geeta's body suspended, prompting an immediate call to the police.
The police swiftly responded by sending the body to a hospital for a post-mortem examination and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the apparent suicide. Authorities are particularly focused on understanding how Ravi became aware of Geeta's condition prior to the discovery.
Statements from PG Owner and Police
Meenu Ahuja, the owner of the PG facility, provided details about Geeta's stay. She stated that Geeta had been living at the PG for approximately one year. On Tuesday night, Geeta returned to the accommodation at 9:30 pm, mentioning she was going to bed. Around 1:30 am, Ravi, who resides in Balaji Colony, knocked on the door. Ahuja explained that she recognized Ravi as he had been introduced to her by Geeta's father, which led her to open Geeta's room. Upon entering, they found the tragic scene.
Maninder Singh, the in-charge of Abohar City-1 police station, elaborated on the relationship between Geeta and Ravi. He revealed that Ravi had been in a relationship with Geeta for some time. On the night of the incident, they had a heated argument over the phone, during which Geeta threatened to commit suicide before abruptly ending the call. Fearing the worst, Ravi rushed to the PG and alerted the owners, asserting that Geeta was not well.
Legal Action and Arrest
Based on a complaint filed by Geeta's father, the police registered a case against Ravi under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following the registration of the case, Ravi was arrested. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of his involvement and the factors that may have contributed to this devastating outcome.
