Security forces discovered a powerful improvised explosive device in a remote forest area of Latehar district. The recovery operation took place on Friday night, with police officials confirming the details on Saturday.
Device Details and Location
The explosive weighed approximately five kilograms. Authorities identified it as an IED constructed using a domestic LPG cylinder. Police found the device in Serendaag forest, which falls under the jurisdiction of Herhunj police station.
Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav provided specific information about the discovery site. The IED was located just fifty meters away from the main village road connecting to Serendaag.
Operation and Neutralization
A coordinated team comprising district police personnel and SSB forces executed the recovery mission. They acted on credible human intelligence inputs that led them directly to the hidden explosive.
Krishnapal Singh Pavaiya, the officer-in-charge of Herhunj police station, described the operation details. The team found the IED buried three feet underground near a small water body within the forest.
Security experts immediately neutralized the device at the discovery location. They performed the controlled detonation on the spot to eliminate any potential threat to nearby communities.
Maoist Connection
Police investigators attributed the planting of this explosive to Maoist insurgents. According to official statements, the extremists placed the device in the forest area some time ago.
The discovery highlights ongoing security challenges in the region. Latehar district has witnessed similar incidents in the past involving hidden explosives and insurgent activities.
Local residents expressed relief following the successful operation. The removal of the IED has enhanced safety for villagers who regularly use the adjacent road for daily travel.
