In a significant crackdown on narcotics trade, Chatra district police on Monday apprehended five individuals in possession of a substantial quantity of brown sugar. The operation, which led to the seizure of contraband valued at approximately Rs 15 lakh, unfolded under the limits of the Sadar police station.
Police Raid Based on Specific Intel
Acting on a credible tip-off about an impending drug sale in the Tudhag forest area, the Chatra police swiftly formed a special raiding team. The team operated under the direct supervision of Subdivisional Police Officer Sandeep Suman and Vipin Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Sadar police station. The officials devised a plan to intercept the suspects before the transaction could be completed.
"We took the input very seriously," stated Chatra Superintendent of Police Sumit Agarwal. The police team strategically cordoned off the suspected area in the forest. Upon noticing the police presence, the accused individuals attempted to flee but were successfully captured by the alert officers.
Major Haul and Arrests Made
The police recovered 31.19 grams of brown sugar from the possession of the arrested men. The narcotics have an estimated street value of around Rs 15 lakh, as confirmed by police officials. In addition to the drugs, law enforcement also seized a white car allegedly used for trafficking the contraband and five smartphones from the accused.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as:
- Rupesh Kumar Dangi
- Neeraj Kumar Yadav
- Prakash Kumar Dangi
- Lakshman Kumar Dangi
- Rakesh Kumar Dangi
While Rakesh Kumar Dangi is a resident of Lovagada under the Sadar police station jurisdiction, the other four arrested men hail from the Mayurhand block of Chatra district.
Ongoing Investigation to Unravel Network
Superintendent of Police Sumit Agarwal emphasized that the investigation is far from over. The primary focus now is to trace the broader supply chain and connections behind this drug racket. "Investigation is ongoing to trace the supply network of the drug and its linkages," Agarwal said. This indicates that police are delving deeper to identify the source suppliers and potential other members of the trafficking network operating in the region.
This successful operation highlights the continued efforts of the Chatra police to combat the menace of drug trafficking, which poses a serious threat to society, particularly the youth. The seizure of high-value contraband and the vehicle used for its transportation marks a substantial setback for local drug peddlers.
