4 Migrant Labourers Killed in Singrauli Pickup Accident on Foggy Night
4 Migrant Labourers Die in Singrauli Hill Accident

A tragic road accident claimed the lives of four migrant labourers and left one seriously injured in Madhya Pradesh's Singrauli district. The pickup vehicle they were travelling in overturned on a treacherous hill stretch late on Monday night.

Details of the Fatal Mishap

The accident occurred around 11:30 pm on Monday night on the Jharkata Pahad road in Chitrangi tehsil. According to initial reports, a combination of dense fog and a sharp bend caused the driver to lose control. The vehicle then plunged into a valley.

The pickup was returning from Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh. The labourers had spent around 40 days there working on paddy harvesting. They were on their way back to Bagdeva village in Singrauli when the disaster struck.

Victims and the Challenging Rescue

Police have identified the deceased as Shilu Baiga (32), Amarpal Baiga (36), Lal Kumar Baiga (35), and Sooraj Lal Baiga (31). Three were residents of Bagdeva village, while one hailed from the Jugail area of Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh.

Visibility was extremely poor due to heavy fog at the time. Preliminary investigations also point towards a possible brake failure at the hilly curve. Local residents joined police teams in a difficult overnight rescue operation to pull the victims from the valley.

The injured were rushed to the Chitrangi community health centre. The bodies were sent for postmortem.

Official Response and Site Condition

Singrauli Superintendent of Police, Manish Khatri, along with the district collector, visited the accident site. He described the location as near a steep turn in a valley with very low visibility.

"The vehicle that fell into the valley is still lying there and will have to be lifted using cranes," said SP Khatri. He confirmed that four people died and one sustained severe injuries, while others were discharged after treatment.

The district collector has provided financial assistance to the families of the deceased as per government norms.
