Police in Gurgaon have arrested four people following a violent altercation over a disputed apartment in Lakshman Vihar 2. The accused allegedly broke into the flat, assaulted a woman, threw out household items, and issued death threats, leading to their arrest on Saturday.
Violent Confrontation in Residential Area
The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the locality, originated from a long-standing property dispute. The complainant, Shyam Sundar Mukherjee, reported that on Saturday, the four accused – identified as Rohit, Sarthak, Lakshmi, and Ritu – forcibly entered his flat. Once inside, they assaulted his sister and threatened to kill her if the family attempted to resist.
A Twisted Tale of Ownership and Deception
During interrogation, a complex story emerged. The accused, particularly Rohit, claimed he had purchased the same flat for Rs 15 lakh in 2021. However, due to unspecified technical reasons, the sale deed could not be formally registered at that time. In a twist, the complainant, Mukherjee, bought the property from another party in 2024 and successfully completed the registration process, possessing valid documents.
A senior police officer involved in the case stated, "Both sides appear to have been misled by a third party. The complainant has valid documents, while the accused seem to have been cheated." The officer strongly criticized the accused's actions, adding, "However, instead of pursuing legal remedies, they took the law into their own hands."
Legal Repercussions and Arrests
Following the complaint, a formal case was registered at the Sector 9A police station. The charges are severe and extensive, filed under multiple sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These include:
- Voluntarily causing hurt (Section 115)
- Unlawful assembly (Section 190)
- Rioting (Section 191(2))
- Mischief by causing loss of property (Section 324(4))
- House trespassing (Section 329(4))
- House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint (Section 333)
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police team located and apprehended all four accused from Sector 4 on the same day. The case highlights the dangers of resorting to vigilante justice in civil disputes, especially those related to real estate, and underscores the importance of navigating legal channels for resolution.
