Four Held in Mumbai Honey-Trap and Robbery Case
In a swift operation, the Aarey Police have apprehended four individuals, including a woman, for allegedly honey-trapping and robbing a 45-year-old businessman from Deonar. The incident, which involved the theft of gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh, occurred in a secluded part of Aarey Colony, Goregaon East.
The Elaborate Trap and Robbery
According to the official complaint filed with the Aarey Police, the events unfolded on November 23. The victim, intending to return to his home in Deonar, was instead persuaded by a woman who had befriended him. She, with the assistance of an auto-rickshaw driver, brought him to a desolate area behind Aarey Dairy. There, two men waiting on a motorcycle ambushed the businessman. They flung chilly powder into his eyes, disorienting him, and then snatched his valuable gold chain before fleeing the scene with their accomplices.
Swift Police Action and Suspects' Identities
The targeted businessman immediately reported the crime to the authorities. Demonstrating remarkable efficiency, police teams launched an investigation that involved scanning footage from 17 different surveillance cameras. Despite the challenge of unclear CCTV grabs, the police managed to identify and nab the four suspects within a mere 24 hours of the First Information Report (FIR) being registered.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shahrin Qureshi (24), Vishal Wagh (27), Namesh Surve (23), and Jehangir Qureshi (25). Investigations into their backgrounds revealed that one of the accused, Vishal Wagh, has a significant criminal history. He has been previously booked in five separate cases by the Dombivali police between 2019 and 2020, which include charges of theft and robbery.
This case highlights a concerning modus operandi and the prompt response of the Mumbai Police in ensuring the perpetrators were brought to justice quickly.
