In a significant crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, the Samdari police station in Jaisalmer's Balotra district successfully apprehended four individuals and recovered a cache of illegal weapons on Sunday night. The operation led to the seizure of three illegal pistols and one live cartridge.
Confidential Tip-Off Leads to Dramatic Arrest
Superintendent of Police, Ramesh, stated that the arrests were a direct outcome of a special campaign initiated to curb the flow of unlawful weapons in the region. Acting on confidential intelligence regarding the activities of the four accused, a police team was dispatched to the Devliyali hill area.
Upon arrival, the officers spotted the suspects—identified as Dharmaram, Rawal Singh, Sohanlal, and Kamlesh—standing near a bonfire. As the police vehicle approached and the team began to alight, the accused, recognizing the uniformed personnel, attempted to flee the scene immediately.
Police Cordon and Recovery of Illegal Arms
Displaying quick reflexes, the police team swiftly cordoned off the surrounding area, cutting off escape routes. The four men were subsequently caught after a brief pursuit. A search of their possession yielded the illicit firearms and ammunition.
An First Information Report (FIR) has been officially registered at the Samdari police station in connection with the incident. The case has been filed under stringent legal provisions, including Section 3/25(8) of the Arms Act and Section 111(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023.
Ongoing Investigation and Continued Vigilance
Police authorities have confirmed that the interrogation of the four accused is currently ongoing. The investigation aims to uncover the source of the weapons, their intended use, and possible links to larger trafficking networks operating in the district.
This operation underscores the police department's focused efforts to enhance public safety by targeting the proliferation of illegal arms. The successful raid in Balotra district sends a strong message about the consequences of engaging in such unlawful activities.
