In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Dindigul district police successfully intercepted a consignment of marijuana and apprehended four individuals involved in its transportation. The operation, carried out on Tuesday, led to the recovery of a substantial 12 kilograms of ganja.
Intelligence Leads to Major Interception
Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of illegal drugs, police teams set up a vehicle checking point on the GTN Road in the vicinity of the Dindigul bus stand. The operation was initiated around noon on Tuesday. Their vigilance soon paid off when they decided to stop and search an auto rickshaw.
The occupants of the three-wheeler were subjected to questioning. Officers grew suspicious when the men provided inconsistent and contradictory answers regarding their journey and purpose. This prompted a thorough search of the vehicle, which revealed the hidden cache of contraband.
Arrests Made and Source Identified
Following the discovery, all four men inside the auto were immediately taken into custody. The police identified the accused as 29-year-old Karuppasamy and 25-year-old Parthiban, both hailing from Pallapatti. The other two arrested individuals are 43-year-old Muthupandi and 21-year-old Nallathambi from Dindigul.
Investigations revealed that the seized ganja was not locally sourced. The illicit substance was smuggled into Tamil Nadu from the state of Odisha, highlighting an inter-state drug trafficking network. The auto rickshaw used for transporting the drugs was also confiscated by the authorities.
Case Registered and Probe Underway
The Dindigul police have registered a formal case in connection with the incident. A comprehensive investigation is currently in progress to uncover the broader network behind this smuggling operation. Authorities are probing the supply chain, intended recipients, and possible links to other criminal activities in the region.
This seizure underscores the continued efforts of the Tamil Nadu police to combat the drug trade and intercept narcotics before they reach consumers. The successful operation based on actionable intelligence marks a notable victory in the ongoing war against drug peddling in the state.
