Police Crack Down on Child Trafficking Ring
In a decisive action against child exploitation, the Machilipatnam police have successfully dismantled a gang involved in the kidnapping of minors for forced labour. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals and the rescue of three children, including two girls and a boy, who were being used as unpaid workers.
Details of the Arrest and Rescue
The police acted on a missing persons complaint filed on December 18. Their investigation swiftly led them to a residence in Arunodaya Colony, Machilipatnam, where they apprehended the accused. The arrested were identified as Kandula Yedukondalu (40), Thumma Prasad (30), both from the colony, and Kandula Lakshmi (30), Yedukondalu's first wife from Annavaram village near Nandyala.
During interrogation, Yedukondalu confessed to the crimes. He admitted to kidnapping three children and then selling them to his first wife, Lakshmi. Lakshmi, along with her son Srinath who is currently absconding, operated a duck-rearing business in Annavaram. It was at this facility that the kidnapped children were forced to work as keepers against their will.
Aftermath and Care for the Victims
The police have ensured the safe return and care of the rescued minors. The young boy, who had been kidnapped on December 8, has been happily reunited with his family. For the two minor girls, the journey to safety continues. As their parents or guardians have not yet been traced, the authorities have moved them to a secure child care home where they will receive proper care and support.
Bandar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ch. Raja provided these crucial updates, highlighting the police's commitment to following the case to its full conclusion. The search for the absconding suspect, Srinath, is actively ongoing.
This case sheds a harsh light on the grim reality of child trafficking and forced labour networks operating in the region. The prompt action by the Machilipatnam police serves as a stern warning to those involved in such heinous crimes and underscores the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activities.
