A tragic head-on collision between two motorcycles in dense fog claimed three lives and left two others injured on a busy village road in Uttar Pradesh's Etah district on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 11 pm in the Awagadh area.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police, the riders of the two speeding bikes failed to notice each other due to poor visibility and lost control near a turn on the road. Chhotu Singh was travelling from Awagarh to Nidhouli Kalan with his relatives Gaurav and Rahees Pal. Coming from the opposite direction were Pradeep and Gyan Singh. The two vehicles crashed head-on with immense force.
Victims and the Aftermath
Gaurav (28), Pradeep (30), and Gyan Singh (55) died on the spot. Etah SP (Crime) Yogesh Singh confirmed the fatalities. The injured, Chhotu (35), is battling for his life at a local health centre. Rahees Pal survived the crash with minor bruises. Police stated that Chhotu and Pradeep were riding the respective motorcycles, with the others seated behind them.
A local resident, Rajkumar, who knew Gaurav's family, shared that the 28-year-old belonged to Gadanpur village. "He was the eldest among three siblings and had been working as a confectioner in Maharashtra for the past six years," Rajkumar said, highlighting the personal loss behind the statistic.
Context of the Journey
In a poignant detail, it was revealed that Gyan Singh and Pradeep, both hailing from the same village, were returning home after dropping a veterinary doctor who had come to treat their cattle. This routine errand ended in catastrophe due to the hazardous driving conditions caused by the dense fog.
Awagadh Station House Officer (SHO) Awadesh Kumar Dixit reiterated that the primary cause appears to be the severe fog, which drastically reduced visibility on the road. The incident underscores the extreme dangers of speeding during winter fog, especially on village roads that often lack adequate lighting and safety measures.
