3 Arrested, 29.24g Brown Sugar Seized in Palamu Raid

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trade, the Chainpur police in Palamu district have apprehended three young individuals and confiscated a substantial quantity of brown sugar. The operation, which unfolded in the Samar Tarn locality on Wednesday, led to the recovery of 29.24 grams of the illicit drug meticulously packed in 69 handmade sachets.

Police Raid Based on Tip-off

Acting on specific intelligence regarding drug peddling activities, Palamu Superintendent of Police Reeshma Ramesan constituted a dedicated team to conduct the raid. The squad was spearheaded by probationary Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajiv Ranjan and included Inspector Deobrat Poddar and the local police station in-charge, Sriram Sharma, among other officers.

The police team successfully intercepted the suspects at the specified location. The arrested individuals have been identified as Manish Kumar, Harshit Raj, and Badal Kumar, all reportedly in their twenties. According to authorities, Manish Kumar possesses a prior criminal record. Officer Sriram Sharma revealed that while these three were captured, three of their alleged accomplices managed to flee the scene.

Accused Sent to Judicial Custody

Following the arrest and necessary procedures, the three accused were presented before a court. On Thursday, they were remanded to judicial custody. The police have registered a case against them under multiple sections of the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Investigations shed light on the modus operandi and the local market for the contraband. Sources indicated that each small sachet of brown sugar was being sold for approximately Rs 500. The seizure of 69 such packets points to a well-organized local distribution network aimed at retail sales.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact

The police are continuing their investigation to trace the source of the drugs and apprehend the absconding suspects. This raid is part of a broader effort by the Palamu police to curb the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the region, which often entraps the youth.

Such operations highlight the ongoing challenges and the proactive steps taken by law enforcement in districts like Palamu. The arrest and seizure serve as a warning to those involved in the narcotics trade while aiming to make neighborhoods like Samar Tarn in Chainpur safer from the scourge of drugs.
