Major Police Operation Halts Illegal Fuel Racket
In a significant crackdown on the illegal trade of flammable substances, the Mufassil police station in Godda successfully seized over 12,000 litres of spurious petrol during a special operation conducted on Saturday. The contraband, which was being transported to a neighbouring district in Bihar, was intercepted based on specific intelligence inputs.
The Midnight Interception
Acting on a tip-off about tankers arriving from Banka, a vehicle checking drive was initiated by the police near the Singhwahini bridge on the Pakur–Godda Main Road. Around 1:10 am, two tankers were spotted approaching from the direction of Chandni Chowk. Upon seeing the police personnel, the drivers of both vehicles attempted a swift U-turn to escape the scene.
As armed officers surrounded the tankers to begin an inspection, the drivers exploited the cover of darkness and fled, abandoning their vehicles. Anand Sah, the officer in-charge of Mufassil police station, stated that preliminary testing confirmed the substance to be adulterated petrol. The total quantity was estimated to be approximately 12,000 litres.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
The police have registered cases against the tanker owners under various relevant sections of the BNSS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sthiti) concerning the illegal trade of inflammable materials. Despite waiting until evening, no one came forward with the ownership documents for the impounded vehicles, leading to their formal seizure.
"Investigation is underway to identify the owners of the vehicles, the drivers who fled, and any other accomplices involved in this illicit operation," added OC Anand Sah. This seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by authorities in the Santhal Parganas region to combat illegal activities that pose a significant risk to public safety and the economy.
