In a significant security operation preceding Republic Day, the Nagaur police in Rajasthan have made a major breakthrough by arresting one individual and confiscating approximately 10,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate along with other explosive materials. The operation unfolded on January 24, when police acted on intelligence inputs regarding the illicit trade and storage of explosive substances in the district. The accused, identified as Sulaiman Khan, was apprehended from his farmhouse located in the quiet Harsore area of Nagaur. In addition to the ammonium nitrate, authorities recovered detonators, detonating wires, and other materials commonly used in mining-related blasting activities.
Nagaur Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachawa emphasized that the police had been monitoring intelligence reports for some time, indicating large-scale procurement and stocking of explosives in the region. Following these leads, the District Special Team was mobilized to conduct a thorough investigation, combining technical and human intelligence to pinpoint the location.
Storage Conditions and Legal Implications
The explosives were stored in 2-3 rooms within Khan's farmhouse, which spans 45 bighas. Police noted that basic safety protocols were not being followed, raising concerns about potential hazards.
