Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to Inaugurate Fifth Affordable Kalyan Mandapam in Gorakhpur
Gorakhpur is set to receive a significant boost to its community infrastructure as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath prepares to inaugurate the city's fifth Kalyan Mandapam on Saturday. This initiative, announced by the information department, aims to provide budget-friendly venues for weddings and other social functions, specifically targeting lower and middle-income families. The move is part of the state government's broader push for inclusive development, ensuring that essential facilities are accessible to all economic sections of society.
Expanding Affordable Infrastructure Across the City
Within just one year, four similar Kalyan Mandapams have already been opened in various wards of Gorakhpur, offering a cost-effective alternative to expensive private banquet halls. The new facility, constructed in the Bichhia area under the supervision of the Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA), represents a continued effort to democratize access to social event spaces. Officials highlight that this project was conceptualized nearly two years ago, following direct instructions from the Chief Minister to the GDA and municipal corporation to create affordable options for economically weaker sections.
Details of the New Kalyan Mandapam
The newly constructed Kalyan Mandapam spans an impressive 1,120 square metres and was built at a cost of Rs 2.47 crore. Designed as a modern convention centre, it boasts a capacity to host up to 300 guests, making it suitable for a wide range of social gatherings. Key features include:
- A spacious main hall for events and ceremonies
- A fully functional kitchen for catering needs
- Dedicated storage rooms for convenience
- Separate, clean toilet facilities for men and women
- Well-maintained premises with drinking water access
This comprehensive setup ensures that families can celebrate important occasions without the financial burden often associated with private venues.
Funding and Future Developments
Funding for this project was arranged through the Chief Minister's MLA quota, underscoring the government's commitment to grassroots development. Previous Kalyan Mandapams have been successfully inaugurated in locations such as Khorabar, Surajkund, Manbela, and Rapti Nagar Extension, demonstrating a systematic rollout across the city. Looking ahead, more facilities are currently under construction in areas including Jungle Benimadhav, Basharatpur, Nakaha No. 2, Mahadev Jharkhandi (Tukda No. 2), and Semra. This expansion signals a sustained effort to enhance community infrastructure, providing equitable access to affordable social spaces for all residents of Gorakhpur.
