UP CM Yogi Adityanath Distributes Smartphones to 69,804 Anganwadi Workers and Supervisors

In a significant push towards digitalization and transparency in child welfare services, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday distributed smartphones to a total of 69,804 Anganwadi workers and supervisors across the state. The distribution event, held in Lucknow, also saw the CM hand over appointment letters to 18,440 newly recruited workers and helpers, marking a major boost to the state's early childhood care infrastructure.

Massive Distribution of Smartphones and Appointment Letters

The smartphone distribution initiative is being hailed as a crucial step in transforming Anganwadis into digital and transparent centers. With these devices, Anganwadi workers will now be empowered to:

  • Track nutrition levels of children and pregnant women efficiently
  • Update and maintain accurate data on children's growth and development
  • Monitor the health and progress of pregnant women in their areas
  • Implement various government schemes more effectively through digital tools

In addition to the smartphones, appointment letters were issued to 18,440 candidates from several districts, including Rae Bareli, Amethi, Sidhauli, and Gosainganj. This recruitment drive aims to strengthen the workforce at the grassroots level, ensuring better coverage and service delivery in rural and urban areas alike.

Inauguration of Child Development Projects Worth Over Rs 450 Crore

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various child development and women welfare projects, with a total investment exceeding Rs 450 crore. These projects are designed to enhance the quality of services provided at Anganwadi centers, focusing on holistic development from early childhood.

As part of the event, essential equipment was distributed to Anganwadi workers to support their monitoring activities. This included:

  • 10,553 infantometers for measuring infant length
  • 1,33,282 stadiometers for assessing height in older children
  • 58,237 mother-child weighing scales for tracking weight changes

A government spokesperson emphasized that this equipment will enable accurate monitoring of children's height and weight, facilitating timely interventions to combat malnutrition and ensure proper growth.

Transformation of Anganwadi Centers into 'Saksham Anganwadis'

The state government has been actively upgrading Anganwadi centers under the 'Saksham Anganwadi' initiative. To date, 23,697 centers have been developed with modern facilities at an expenditure of Rs 236 crore. These upgraded centers are equipped with:

  • LED screens for educational and informational purposes
  • RO water purification machines to ensure safe drinking water
  • Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) kits for interactive learning
  • Modern furniture to create a conducive environment for children

According to an official, these centers are no longer limited to just food distribution. They are evolving into comprehensive hubs for children's holistic development, encompassing education, health, and mental growth. "A healthy childhood is the foundation of a strong nation. Through proper nutrition, early education, and adequate care, we are ensuring the holistic development of children," the official stated.

Statewide Reach and Future Plans

Uttar Pradesh currently operates 1.89 lakh Anganwadi centers statewide, from which 897 child development projects are being implemented. The government is committed to equipping all these centers with smart, digital, and modern facilities in a phased manner.

The official further highlighted the evolving role of Anganwadi centers: "Today, Anganwadi centers are providing a safe, inspiring, and play-based environment, which is essential for children's mental and physical development. We are working tirelessly to ensure that every child in Uttar Pradesh has access to quality early childhood care and education."

This comprehensive initiative underscores the state government's dedication to leveraging technology and infrastructure improvements to enhance child welfare and women's empowerment across Uttar Pradesh.
