Varanasi Municipal Corporation Prepares Action Plan for Bakrid Cleanliness
Varanasi Municipal Corporation Bakrid Cleanliness Plan

The Varanasi Municipal Corporation has formulated a dedicated action plan to uphold cleanliness and safeguard public health during Bakrid. This initiative includes comprehensive arrangements for the swift disposal of the substantial waste generated from qurbani activities.

Waste Management Strategy

The civic body has pinpointed 79 locations across the city where waste accumulation is anticipated to be higher after the ritual sacrifice. To tackle this, 94 vehicles, including DP containers, compactors, hoppers, Tata S vehicles, tractor-trolleys, loaders, and dumpers, have been assigned special duty for garbage collection from these designated sites.

The transport department has been directed to ensure that all garbage-carrying vehicles are covered with tarpaulins to prevent the spread of filth along transit routes. In areas such as Jaitpura, Alaipura, and Bajardeeha, where large-scale qurbani occurs, the corporation has separately deployed 95 sanitation workers and 8 sanitation supervisors to guarantee excellent cleanliness.

Specialized Personnel and Infrastructure

In addition to the sanitation workforce, special deployment of nala gang personnel has been ensured. Dedicated pits have been prepared at the Karsada Plant for the safe and scientific disposal of waste. Sanitation and food inspectors have been assigned round-the-clock duty on a rotational basis to ensure uninterrupted monitoring and supervision.

To prevent foul odor and infection after cleaning, an ample stock of pesticides has been stored, including 1,200 bags of Malathion powder, 700 bags of bleaching powder, 50 tonnes of lime powder, 500 litres of phenyl, and 15 tonnes of rock salt. The garbage will be deposited into pits and capped with soil mixed with these chemicals using an excavator machine.

Public Complaint Resolution and Security

A help desk has been set up at the control room for the quick resolution of public complaints. The police administration is also on alert to ensure that the festival is celebrated safely and peacefully.

DCP Varuna Zone Pramod Kumar, ADCP Lipi Nagayach, ACP Apurva Pandey, and Cantt police station in-charge Raj Kishor Pandey, along with all outpost in-charges, conducted foot patrols across various areas, including Mint House, Nadeser, Ardali Bazar, Pakki Bazar, and Kachehri, to review security arrangements. During the patrol, police officers appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony. Intensive checking of suspicious individuals and vehicles was also carried out.
