Uttarakhand Railway Budget 2026-27: Rs 4,769 Crore Allocation Marks 26-Fold Jump
Uttarakhand Railway Budget: Rs 4,769 Crore Allocation

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Monday that Uttarakhand has been allocated a substantial Rs 4,769 crore in the Railway Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. This allocation represents a remarkable 26-fold increase compared to the funds earmarked for railway works in the state between 2009 and 2014, which stood at a mere Rs 187 crore.

Historic Boost for Rail Infrastructure

Addressing the media in Dehradun, Vaishnaw emphasized that this latest budgetary provision is set to significantly enhance rail infrastructure and connectivity across Uttarakhand. The minister highlighted that this surge in funding underscores the government's commitment to transforming the state's railway network, which has seen limited development in previous years.

Ongoing Projects and Modernization Efforts

Currently, railway projects worth Rs 39,491 crore are underway in Uttarakhand, encompassing a wide range of initiatives. These include track construction, comprehensive station redevelopment, and critical security upgrades. Under the Amrit Station Scheme, eleven stations have been selected for complete modernization, with an allocation of Rs 147 crore dedicated to their redevelopment.

Operational Advancements and Achievements

Vaishnaw noted that Uttarakhand now benefits from three operational Vande Bharat Express services and one Amrit Bharat Express, improving high-speed connectivity. Since 2014, the state has achieved significant milestones, including the laying of approximately 76 km of new railway tracks, the electrification of 334 km of railway lines, and the construction of 106 flyovers and underpasses. These efforts have culminated in Uttarakhand achieving 100% railway electrification, a notable feat in enhancing efficiency and sustainability.

Safety and Future Projects

In addition to infrastructure upgrades, a total of 54 safety-related works have been sanctioned to ensure passenger security. Vaishnaw also provided an update on the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project, stating that it is progressing rapidly and is nearing the inauguration stage. This project is expected to further bolster connectivity in the region, facilitating easier travel and economic growth.

The minister's announcement reflects a strategic focus on accelerating railway development in Uttarakhand, aiming to address long-standing infrastructure gaps and support the state's overall progress through enhanced rail services.
