The Uttar Pradesh state government on Tuesday announced that gram secretariats have been established in all 57,694 gram panchayats across the state, ensuring that government services are now accessible to rural residents within their own villages.
Panchayat Buildings and Facilities
Over the past five years, 24,311 panchayat buildings have been constructed, equipping panchayats with modern amenities. These buildings are furnished with furniture, computers, internet connectivity, drinking water, and sanitation facilities.
Deployment of Staff and Professionals
Panchayat assistants and data entry operators have been deployed in every gram panchayat. Additionally, the government has empanelled 1,875 registered architects and consulting engineers (civil) to support infrastructure development.
Digital Initiatives for Transparency
The department has implemented Geo Fenced and QR Code Technology to facilitate the payment of all funds sent to gram panchayats through computers installed at gram secretariats. A state-level call centre and an online attendance system have also been introduced to ensure prompt grievance redressal and effective communication.
Services Now Available in Villages
A government spokesperson stated that villagers no longer need to make repeated visits to tehsil and block headquarters to avail themselves of services such as income, caste, and residence certificates, information on pension schemes, MGNREGA-related services, birth and death registration, and benefits under various government schemes.
This initiative marks a significant step towards decentralizing governance and bringing essential services closer to the rural population, reducing the time and effort required for villagers to access government facilities.
