Uttar Pradesh to Launch Affordable Animal Medicine Centers Across State
UP to Set Up Affordable Animal Medicine Centers Statewide

Uttar Pradesh Announces Statewide Network of Affordable Veterinary Medicine Centers

In a significant move to boost animal husbandry and livestock health, the Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled plans to establish dedicated medicine centers for animals across the state. These centers will be modeled on the successful Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra framework, aiming to provide affordable and high-quality veterinary medicines to livestock farmers.

Comprehensive Coverage Across Development Blocks

The initiative mandates the opening of one animal medicine center in each development block, ensuring widespread accessibility for farmers in rural and semi-urban areas. This strategic rollout is designed to cover the entire state systematically, addressing the critical need for timely and cost-effective veterinary care.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Suresh Kumar outlined the specific criteria for applicants seeking to open these centers. Prospective operators must submit:

  • The name and valid registration details of a qualified pharmacist.
  • Proof of a minimum 120 square feet of dedicated space for the shop.
  • A valid drug cell licence certificate to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

These requirements are established to maintain quality control and professional oversight at every center.

Priority Allocation and Operational Framework

Dr. Kumar emphasized that priority in the selection process will be given to eligible beneficiaries associated with Pradhan Mantri Krishak Samriddhi Kendra and various cooperative societies. This approach aims to leverage existing agricultural networks and support community-based organizations.

The scheme will be operated under the government's Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP), integrating it into a broader public health framework for animals. This alignment ensures coordinated efforts in disease prevention and livestock management.

Expected Benefits for Livestock Farmers

The establishment of these animal medicine centers is projected to deliver multiple advantages:

  1. Timely Access: Farmers will have reliable access to essential medicines when needed, reducing delays in treatment.
  2. Cost Reduction: Affordable pricing will lower operational costs for animal husbandry, making it more economically viable.
  3. Enhanced Profitability: By improving animal health and reducing mortality rates, the initiative is expected to increase overall profitability for livestock farmers.
  4. Quality Assurance: Standardized medicines from approved centers will ensure safety and efficacy in veterinary care.

This initiative represents a proactive step by the Uttar Pradesh government to strengthen the agricultural economy and support the livelihoods of millions dependent on livestock farming. By bridging the gap in veterinary healthcare infrastructure, it aims to foster sustainable growth in the animal husbandry sector across the state.
