Uttar Pradesh Government Unveils Semester-Based Scholarship System

In a significant move to enhance educational support, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Monday that the state government will introduce a semester-based scholarship system from the next academic year. This new initiative is designed to provide students with financial assistance precisely at the time of fee submission, addressing long-standing delays in disbursal.

Streamlining Financial Aid with Student Cards

To facilitate the semester-wise distribution of funds, the government plans to issue student cards that will be directly linked to individual courses. Officials emphasized that this measure aims to streamline the process and ensure efficient delivery of benefits. Efforts are actively underway to include students who missed out on scholarships in previous years due to banking or technical issues, with those affected this year set to be covered in the next financial cycle.

Immediate Impact and Beneficiary Reactions

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath transferred scholarship funds to students' bank accounts with a single click, an event that was met with enthusiastic applause in the auditorium. Expressing gratitude, beneficiary Vaibhavkar Pathak, a BTech student, highlighted how the scholarship has assured continuity in his studies. Similarly, Divyanshi, a BSc Nursing student, noted that the financial support has made her education more manageable and is crucial for her family's well-being.

Enhancements in Scholarship Disbursal

A government spokesperson underscored that this program reflects significant improvements in the scholarship system. Instead of releasing funds at the end of the academic session, scholarships are now being disbursed starting from October 2, ensuring timely support for students throughout the year.

Focus on Backward and Minority Communities

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also highlighted the government's ongoing work to support students from backward and minority communities. To strengthen educational infrastructure in minority-dominated regions, the state has established:

  • 218 intermediate college buildings
  • 74 ITI buildings
  • 18 degree colleges

Additionally, an Unani Medical College in Bareilly and 20 Common Service Centres have been set up, further expanding access to education and healthcare services.
