Uttar Pradesh Government Forges Partnership with Hinduja Group for Rural Broadband Expansion
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a significant initiative to enhance internet penetration across the state's rural regions. In a strategic move to bridge the digital divide, the state administration will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private sector entity to deliver high-speed broadband connectivity to villages.
Project Ganga: A Digital Transformation Initiative
This ambitious program, named Project Ganga, is specifically designed to strengthen the digital economy and augment the income levels of the rural population. The initiative is being spearheaded and implemented by the State Transformation Commission, underscoring the government's commitment to technological advancement and rural development.
Officials have confirmed that a subsidiary of the Hinduja Group will be responsible for executing the comprehensive broadband rollout. Representing the state government during the formal signing of the MoU will be Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, highlighting the project's importance to the state's economic and infrastructural agenda.
Empowering Local Entrepreneurs and Creating Employment
The core operational model of Project Ganga involves empowering local individuals to become digital service providers. Under the detailed plan:
- Approximately 8,000 to 10,000 local entrepreneurs will be trained and enabled to function as independent broadband service providers.
- These entrepreneurs will deliver high-speed broadband services directly within their local communities.
- The primary objective is to make internet access not only faster but also more widely and reliably available in village settings.
This approach is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities, both direct and indirect. By fostering local entrepreneurship, the project aims to provide youth with viable job prospects within their own regions, reducing migration. Employment will stem from service delivery, customer support, maintenance, and other related ancillary activities, creating a sustainable digital ecosystem in rural Uttar Pradesh.
The collaboration between the Uttar Pradesh government and the Hinduja Group marks a pivotal step towards inclusive digital growth, aiming to transform rural connectivity and economic prospects through Project Ganga's innovative framework.
