UP Govt Extends Housing, Health Benefits to Acid Attack Survivors

The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step to provide tangible support and social security to survivors of acid attacks and triple talaq. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that these survivors be extended housing and health benefits under various welfare schemes.

The directives were issued during a meeting to review schemes implemented by the state's Women and Child Development (WCD) Department. "The Chief Minister emphasized the need to support survivors from both categories so they can lead a dignified life," an official stated. The WCD Department has been instructed to take concrete steps for the social, economic, and health empowerment of women.

Schemes for Inclusion

To realize the CM's vision, the government is now preparing to list acid attack and triple talaq survivors as beneficiaries of the following schemes:

Implementation Process

The WCD Department has been designated as the nodal department for this exercise. Preparations to implement the CM's directions have already begun. "The department is now collecting data on the number of women affected by triple talaq and acid attacks so that those in need can receive help," the official added. Once the data is verified, a formal government order will be issued.

Officials confirmed that the CM has instructed that no eligible woman should be deprived of government schemes due to lack of information or procedural complexities. Women affected by acid attacks often require long-term treatment, surgeries, and rehabilitation. Similarly, many women affected by triple talaq face economic and social insecurity.

Broader Impact

This initiative aims to provide a safety net for vulnerable women, ensuring they have access to housing and healthcare. By streamlining the inclusion process, the government hopes to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and deliver benefits directly to those in need. The move is expected to empower survivors and help them rebuild their lives with dignity.
