Trichy MP Advocates for Electronics Hub and Railway Enhancements in Key Delhi Meeting

In a significant development for industrial and infrastructure growth in Tamil Nadu, Trichy MP Durai Vaiko held a crucial meeting with Union Minister for Railways, Electronics, and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, in New Delhi on Wednesday. The discussions centered on two primary demands aimed at boosting the region's economic and tourism potential.

Pushing for an Electronics and Semiconductor Manufacturing Hub

The MP strongly advocated for the establishment of a dedicated electronics and semiconductor manufacturing hub at the Manapparai Sipcot industrial estate, which falls within his constituency. This proposal aligns with the Union budget's allocation of ₹40,000 crore for the India Semiconductor Mission's Phase II, highlighting a strategic opportunity for national and regional development.

Durai Vaiko emphasized that Manapparai Sipcot is ideally suited for this initiative due to its adequate land parcel, skilled workforce, and existing industrial base. By leveraging these assets, the estate could transform into a key node in India's electronics manufacturing ecosystem, potentially creating jobs and attracting investments.

Railway Upgrades to Boost Spiritual Tourism

Beyond industrial growth, the MP reiterated several railway-related demands to enhance connectivity and promote spiritual tourism in the region. Key points included:

  • Operating the Trichy-Tirupati intercity express to improve travel links between these important pilgrimage centers.
  • Expediting the launch of the proposed Vande Bharat train between Rameswaram and Chennai, with a specific request for a stoppage at Srirangam railway station.
  • Providing halts for Tejas and other Vande Bharat Express trains at Srirangam station, given its role as a gateway to one of India's most visited pilgrimage sites.

These measures aim to streamline travel for devotees and boost local tourism economies.

Infrastructure Development for Trichy

In addition to these major proposals, Durai Vaiko sought a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the minister to commence work on the elevated rotary at G Corner in Trichy. This infrastructure project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and improve urban mobility in the city.

The meeting underscores the MP's proactive efforts to secure central government support for Trichy's development, blending industrial advancement with tourism and infrastructure upgrades.
