Rajasthan's Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana: Rs 142 Cr Aid to 34,704 Girls in 2 Years
Rs 142 Cr Aid to 34,704 Girls Under Rajasthan Kanyadan Yojana

The Rajasthan government has significantly ramped up its support for families celebrating their daughters' weddings. Over the past two years, the state's flagship Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana has disbursed a substantial Rs 142.62 crore in financial assistance, directly benefiting 34,704 girls across the state. Official data reveals this outreach surpasses the aid provided in the initial two years of the previous administration.

Digital Push and Extended Window Ease Access

In a major move to streamline the process, the application system for the scheme is now fully online and seamlessly integrated with the state's Jan Aadhaar portal. This integration allows for the automatic verification of crucial details such as residence, caste, BPL (Below Poverty Line) status, income, marriage registration, and bank information. This digital leap has drastically cut down on paperwork, minimized procedural delays, and reduced human intervention, making the scheme more accessible and transparent.

Recognizing practical challenges faced by families, the government has also made a key policy change. The application window has been extended from 6 months to 1 year after the marriage. A senior official explained the rationale, stating that marriages are often arranged and solemnized quickly, leaving little time for paperwork. This extension ensures that eligible families are not deprived of benefits due to unforeseen circumstances or procedural holdups.

Financial Assistance Structure and Future Plans

The scheme provides differentiated financial support based on the beneficiary's background. For girls belonging to SC/ST and minority communities from BPL families, the government grants Rs 31,000 for marriage expenses. For other eligible groups, including general BPL families, Antyodaya families, Aastha card holders, widows, persons with disabilities, Palanhar Yojana beneficiaries, and women sportspersons, the assistance amount is Rs 21,000.

The government has indicated that this is not the end of reforms. Looking ahead, additional relaxations and further simplifications in the process are likely to be announced in the 2026–27 Budget. These planned measures aim to expand the scheme's reach even further, ensuring that financial support reaches every eligible family in Rajasthan.

A Scheme Aligned with Ground Realities

The enhancements to the Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana reflect a governance model tuned to ground realities. By moving the process online, the state has tackled corruption and inefficiency. By extending the deadline, it has shown empathy for the logistical challenges of wedding planning. The substantial two-year expenditure figure demonstrates a committed follow-through on welfare promises. As Rajasthan continues to refine this social safety net, it sets a benchmark for using technology and pragmatic policy to empower families during significant life events.
