Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann handed over appointment letters to 523 more youths in the Health Department on Wednesday. He stated that the state government has ended the era when government jobs were decided on the basis of money and political influence instead of merit.
Massive job creation in four years
Highlighting the creation of 67,563 government jobs in four years, Mann said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has restored faith in public recruitment and reversed the trend of youth leaving Punjab in search of employment.
“It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that more than 67,500 government jobs have been provided to youth across the state. The era of cash payments and favouritism has ended and appointments are being made solely on the basis of merit,” he said.
Merit-based recruitment
The Chief Minister reiterated his government's commitment to transparent and merit-based recruitment processes. He accused previous governments of exploiting the youth through corrupt practices, leading to a loss of trust in the system.
Mann added that the AAP government has not only created jobs but also ensured that deserving candidates get them without any illegal gratification or recommendations.
Impact on youth migration
With these appointments, the state aims to curb the migration of educated youth to other states and countries. The government claims that the consistent job creation has boosted confidence among young Punjabis.
The event was attended by senior officials of the Health Department and newly appointed employees along with their families.
