Prayagraj PMAY Flats to Receive Modern PNG Connections, Replacing LPG Cylinders
In a significant development for urban housing, beneficiaries of the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) flats located in Lukerganj, Prayagraj, are set to receive piped natural gas (PNG) connections. This initiative will completely eliminate the need for residents to queue for traditional LPG cylinders, marking a major convenience upgrade for the community.
Infrastructure Completion and Safety Assurance
The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) has successfully completed the installation of PNG pipelines across all 76 flats constructed on land that was previously under the possession of slain mafia figure Atiq Ahmed. According to PDA officials, the pipelines have been laid in strict adherence to all established safety and quality standards. The authority has further committed to regular monitoring of the supply to ensure uninterrupted and reliable service for the residents.
Implementation Timeline and Beneficiary Focus
PDA Vice-Chairman Rishiraj announced that the PNG supply is expected to be activated and operational between the months of July and August this year. To facilitate a smooth rollout, special camps will be organized in the near future to provide the connections directly to the beneficiaries. A crucial meeting with officials from the gas supplying company is scheduled for next week to finalize the remaining formalities.
"This initiative is designed to make daily cooking and household gas needs significantly more convenient for the residents, with a particular focus on benefiting families from economically weaker sections," stated Vice-Chairman Rishiraj. He emphasized that the move is a core part of enhancing the quality of life under the PMAY scheme.
Broader Urban Development Goals
Officials clarified that this project is not an isolated effort but is integrated into a broader strategy under the PMAY scheme to provide modern amenities and improve living standards for urban residents as part of government housing initiatives. The PDA has also revealed plans to extend the PNG service to other residential projects under the PMAY scheme in Prayagraj in the coming period, indicating a city-wide push for upgraded infrastructure.
The transition to piped natural gas represents a forward step in urban utility management, aiming to reduce logistical burdens and provide a continuous, safe energy source for households in government-sponsored housing.
