A wave of entrepreneurial spirit is sweeping through Prayagraj, with thousands of young residents stepping forward to launch their own businesses. This surge is powered by the Chief Minister's Youth Entrepreneur Development Scheme, which is providing crucial financial backing and turning business dreams into reality.
Record-Breaking Applications in Prayagraj District
Official data reveals an overwhelming response to the scheme in the district. For the current financial year 2025-26, covering the period from April 1 to December 10, authorities have received a staggering 7,331 applications. The total value of these proposed ventures amounts to a massive Rs 3572.75 lakh (over Rs 35.7 crore). This indicates a strong desire among the city's youth to become job creators rather than job seekers.
Loans Disbursed: From Applications to Action
The administrative machinery is working swiftly to convert these applications into active businesses. To expedite the process, loans for 1,698 applicants have already been approved. Out of these approvals, the funds have reached the hands of 1,419 young entrepreneurs. The total loan amount disbursed so far stands at Rs 629.19 lakh (over Rs 6.29 crore).
According to Sharad Tandon, the Deputy Commissioner (Industries), the most popular sectors among the applicants are food, agro, and services. The scheme provides eligible youth with collateral-free loans of up to Rs 5 lakh to help them establish their enterprises.
Empowering Rural and Urban Dreams Alike
A significant highlight of this initiative is its reach beyond urban centers. Officials report that approximately 52% of the applications have come from rural areas of the district, showcasing the scheme's inclusive nature and its potential to boost the rural economy alongside urban development.
The real impact of the scheme is best understood through the success stories it is creating. Shailesh Maurya from Bahariya village is one such beneficiary. He runs "Premanjul Bakers" and received a loan of Rs 2.5 lakh to expand his operations. With this financial support, his business has grown significantly, and he now supplies pizzas, cakes, pastries, and buns to nearby towns.
In the city area, Dr. Anas Khan utilized the scheme's maximum loan limit of Rs 5 lakh to establish his own physiotherapy and wellness centre. Dr. Khan stated that the loan enabled him to purchase essential physiotherapy equipment, enhancing his service quality and operational capacity.
Broader Impact on Economy and Employment
This initiative is achieving a dual objective. Primarily, it is providing direct employment opportunities to the youth who start their ventures. Secondly, by fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and supporting small businesses, it is strengthening the local economy from the ground up. The success in Prayagraj district serves as a model for how government support can unlock the potential of young Indians, driving innovation and economic growth in key sectors like food processing, agriculture, and services.
